In my drawing and painting class, I had to draw people in my class in different poses for the class to draw. I drew people in different poses for three days. The first day of drawing people was difficult. I had to draw within 30 seconds of the shapes I see in the different poses. On day two I drew really fast with shapes and then draw the skeleton of the joints in the human body in one minute. On the last day I drew for 30 seconds, one minute, and then for five minutes. I drew people with some more detail on the five minute drawing.
For my next practice drawing I had to draw a side view of my face. I thought that it turn out really well. Even though I hate drawing my face because I was always finding flaws in my face. I used view finder to accurately measure my face to it could look exactly like the actual picture. I also used a key to help me draw my face so it looks real. I used a measurement on my face to measure areas so everything matched up. I thought that this activity was really easy to draw. I can draw side profiles really well and I really enjoyed this practice drawing. This practice drawing was helpful to me because i could improve on my drawing of people or myself.
In my drawing and painting class I started my first practice drawing for my next project. I had to pick a corner of a room and draw it as a 3D image. I chose to draw the corner with the cabinets and the counter tops. Before I did this practice drawing, my class did a practice drawing all together to draw 3D images using a vanishing point. I found this kind of difficult to draw. My lines didn't really match up with the actual object that I was drawing. Even though it was difficult i still found it helpful. Maybe if we worked on it more than it would have turned out better. Overall I thought that it looked ok. I could tell what it was but it didn't match up that well.
I finally got my elk project done! I think that it turned out well but I wish that I was able to put breath on the elk. I loved how the color of the background makes it feel cold like winter. I wanted it to look cold because winter is one of my favorite seasons. I also like how the elk looks because I made him white him white and then I added a shimmery pearl color on top of it. I would also change the paper that I used for my project. The paper that I used was kind of thin, so some of the ink ran through the paper. For my project I used a light blue ink, a black sharpie marker, white acrylic paint, and pearl acrylic paint. I found my example picture off the internet and I zoomed in on it so all I could draw was its head.
I am almost done with my elk picture. I have painted the back-round and I have painted the elk a shimmery pearl color. All I have to do is go and outline the elk because my paint covered the pervious lines. I chose to change the elk color because a classmate told me that the elk should stand out more than just being plain white. I think that it was a successful change because it did make the elk have a better appearance. The rubbing alcohol didn't really work because it was supposed to lighten the ink but all it did was make the paper really wet. Over all I really liked how its looking. I think that it will turn out really well when it is completed.
I started on my elk picture and I decided to have it like it was calling to something. I wanted the back-round to look cold or icy. Summer and winter are my two favorite seasons. I wanted the elk to look "powerful" so I made it have a large set of antlers. The antlers gave my picture many different shapes. The problem that I ran into was when I started to paint with the blue ink that I was using for the back-round sort of bled through the paper. It bled through because the paper was thin. I also wanted the elk to have breath because his mouth was open and he was calling to something. so I took alcohol to lighten the ink to it looked like breath. After the ink was dry, I started to paint the elk white. I painted the elk white but it looked sort of blank and didn't really pop. So I mixed a shiny pearl paint with the white to make the elk pop.
I have finally have finished my contour line drawing. My cow and zentangle turned out amazing. I love how everything turned out. This art project challenged me because I have never used the charcoal pencils before or acrylic chalk. This helped me with the shading of the cow's facial features. I could shade the dark areas and the light areas. If I could change one thing about my project would be to add a tail onto the cow. I would have the tail in motion like if it was swatting at something. I think that i met my all of my goals for my project. I loved how every thing turned out. I chose to present it in my digital portfolio and I want to present it in person too. I think the biggest risk was the cow not looking realistic. I was afraid that the shading would look terrible and be a big black mush. But the cow was a success because it did turn out to look realistic.
Nayely Hurtado did my peer critique for my cow zentangle art project. She told me that I should not change anything about my project. she told me that everything fit together really well. Nayely told me that she really liked the colors that I used for my project. The most successful part of my art project was the cow. I love how the cow turned out. I was afraid that the cow wasn't going to turn out like I would have wanted it to. Nayely also liked the detail that I put the cow's eye. She admired how the bright colors didn't swallow the cow because my cow was a darker color than the back-round. The peer critique helped me better understand my artwork. I enjoyed the helpful information about my artwork.
I have finally came to an idea that I want to create for my positive and negative drawing. I want to create a close up picture of and elk. I thought that the elk antlers would create different shapes so it wouldn't be a boring simple box around the animal. I want the back-round to be all different colors of blues. I chose these colors because I like the color blue and I like winter. When I think of winter I think blues and grays. I am thinking about using water colors or acrylics for my back-round. It took a lot of thinking and figuring out what I wanted to draw for the negative and positive drawing. I also have to draw my elk facing to the left because I need to draw things facing other directions. This drawing will be smaller than my cow zentangle drawing.
